3) JSESSIONID

NREUM, NRAGENT, JSESSIONID is a session cookie. It is deleted when the browser closes.

1) This cookie is only created in browsers that do not support the Web Timing API. When a browser supports the Web Timing API, a native interface can be used to determine navigation start time.

2) This cookie is used to communicate between the New Relic server aggregating end user metrics and the agent(s) running in the associated web application. A token is used to identify and correlate application tier transaction traces with corresponding browser traces.

3) The JSESSIONID cookie is used to store a session identifier so that New Relic can monitor session counts for an application. The cookie value is generated by Jetty.

For Analytics.js – Cookie Usage:
The analytics.js JavaScript library is party of Universal Analytics and uses a single first-party cookie containing an anonymous identifier used to distinguish users.

Cookie Name Duration (Expiration) Purpose
Google Analytics

1) _ga

2) _utma

3) _utmb

6) 2 years from set/update

1) Distinguish the current domain, start and end of a session, traffic source, unique visitors, number and time of previous visit and value of visitor-level custom variables.

2) Used to distinguish users and sessions. The cookie is created when the javascript library executes and no existing _utma cookies exists. The cookie is updated every time data is sent to Google Analytics.

3) Used to determine new sessions/visits. The cookie is created when the javascript library executes and no existing _utmb cookies exists. The cookie is updated every time data is sent to Google Analytics.

4) Not used in ga.js. Set for interoperability with urchin.js. Historically, this cookie operated in conjunction with the _utmb cookie to determine whether the user was in a new session/visit.

5) Stores the traffic source or campaign that explains how the user reached your site. The cookie is created when the javascript library executes and is updated every time data is sent to Google Analytics.

6) Used to store visitor-level custom variable data. This cookie is created when a developer uses the _setCustomVar method with a visitor level custom variable. This cookie was also used for the deprecated _setVar method. The cookie is updated every time data is sent to Google Analytics.

(* The “DURATION” refers to the cookie expiry date.)

For Urchin.js – Cookie Usage
Historically, Google Analytics provided a JavaScript measurement library named urchin.js. When the newer ga.js library launched, developers were encouraged to migrate to the new library. For sites that have not completed the migration, urchin.js sets cookies identically to what is set in ga.js. Read the ga.js cookie usage section above for more details.
